    Bare root shrubs and trees, yes of course, in the dormant season....so have I and well worth it too. I have purchased scores of fruit trees for example....apples,pears, peaches, plums etc. ...I would never choose to buy them potted. Bigger plants, bigger roots etc. than anything in containers :)

    However, I was referring essentially to perennials, herbaceous etc.......all
    I suggest is that folks compare the potted versions with the bare root ones.:) In my experience in this regard potted plants are superior :)

        I would thoroughly recomend buying bare root perennials. These are a few I bought last Winter..........

        These were received in December, potted up and left in a cold greenhouse until Spring when they were planted out into their permanent positions.

            I cover with fleece for 24 hours or so.
            Bigger plants are treated similarly:)
