I had mint planted out in my old garden, and it did spread rampantly but only across the area where it was planted (which was small and separate from the rest of the garden). It didn't pop up randomly all over the place like lemon balm does in my current garden.

What about the citronella candles etc we used these to keep biters at bay in the evenings. They lasted months on end . And very strong scented. We bought ours at Home bargains..Also used ground coffee beans are said to absorb the bad smells . Ask at a coffee shop if they can spare you...

The fruits are very fragrant. Even if you don't like eating them, you can just put them in a bowl and enjoy the smell.

I've lived in this house for over 30 years but only started seeing foxes recently. And then generally as a quick glimpse as they crossed the garden. Going by what self-seeds in my containers verbena bon, aquilegia, purple toadflax and ivy leafed toadflax should be easy options.

@AnniD My local hedgehog rescue went above and beyond in trying to save the last one I took. Gutted that he didn't make it but relieved he lived his last couple months warm and taken care of rather than out in the cold winter with a serious injury.@fairygirl I hate the way they hover around...
