The liquid fertiliser will find its way through the mulch (as water does). For the granules I think it would be better to carefully scrape back the mulch before sprinkling the granules, although they would probably dissolve and find their way into the soil eventually.

You're welcome @RowlandsCastle! Just wish the trip (coach) had been a month later. Just for more colour. I imagine it'll be quite spectacular later in the year. The castle itself is glorious, only complaint would be the low light level inside. Understandable of course!
