Quick question please, should clematis on an obelisk be tied in horizontally round and round like you do roses or is it best to let them just romp up vertically to the top?

Be brave and cut it back! If you don't, you'll end up with all the flowers at the top. It's only a young plant and has plenty of low growth, so will really benefit from a chop now.

    Close-ups of flowers

Beschorneria yuccoides sent up 6 flower spikes very early this year. In 2010 when we had -15 degrees it was down to 2 leaves. Moved it and gave it a "roof" and it has done brilliantly.
