I usually cut back to a point below where the last flower appeared. On yours, that seem to be where I've put the yellow mark:

Help required with reoccurring weeds or strange growth
Unless you bruise the stems it is unlikely anything will work, they have an outside layer of silica, which makes them pretty impervious.

Drilling into a brick wall
Make your hole as suggested above then hammer in a plastic rawl plug and use eyes with a screw fitting. Worked for me.
