Thanks I assumed this was the case, because I’ve never deadheaded them in the past and they seem to be spreading quite well. I always intend dividing some clumps, too, but never seem to get round to doing that (must try harder ). I imagine now is the time to be doing so, if I’m going to do it.

I have taken mine out of pots last autumn and transplanted into the ground with top dressing of ericaceous . Other acid lovers are doing fine in my soil and i have 3 water butts handy for where they are planted so i am keeping my fingers crossed that this works.

AAhhso that's why. The cricket season could easily be three months shorter in the UK, they stand there freezing for the first and last 6 weeks most years.

Probably because they have the chemicals that can be used on some of the potential problems that the ordinary gardener doesn't have access to. Blight etc, admittedly viruses are a bigger problem.
