Clever magpies! I find lots of nest size twigs dropped on the lawn. They love acer tree twigs as they are bendy. Before mowing I have to clear them off the lawn.

Thank you @ViewAheadI am pretty certain that "gold" refers to the stamens. The fruit is mostly green. It does get lighter in colour as it matures but I still wouldn't call it gold, it's more like a greenish yellow.

Good question, it's an American bred hybrid from Nuncio's nursery and I picked it up at small nursery in Cornwall. Flower stems can be a bit weak for the flower head.

For milk dispensers in canteens and rest areas the milk still comes in a bag in a box, 10 L at a time if I remember right. The bag has a "spout" that after fitting in the dispenser you snip the end off.

A very good morning one and all. That is very interesting I have battled with equisetum in my garden, on my drive etc. for over 40 years so finding something useful to do with the 'stuff' is helpful. My paternal Granddad - also a North East miner - told me once that they used to find its roots...

I like the white and yellow varieties. They are less earthy than red ones and the white don't stain anything. I think avalanche is a white, boldor for yellow .I have found that they are less frost resistant than the red ones for whatever reason, so id harvest the yellow ones in particular...
