I don't know what happen but i found myself watching youtube video on how to plant onion sets and all of them planted the sets deep into the soil, i've always just pushed them into the soil just enough to get the roots going in the soil, so is planting them deep a good thing or am i doing it wrong?

i think depends on your area as if the insects are already around small amounts can still be found and used. most of what im planting is around in the area already just not in the village anymore
