I've grown both the yellow and the red but can't remember the actual names. I think the yellow tend to be more vigorous than the red but as with every plant these days, new varieties are produced on a seemingly continuous basis.

Might give it a miss, I was thinking of buying a bulk bag and making my own potting compost but I dont think its what I need. We never see any of the council compost that we participate and pay to get rid of around here it all goes to some unknown individual.I can never make enough weed free...

It's basically just a small gap, not a moat. I keep maybe a hand's width clear around the base of anything woody and mulch right up to that. Once they're properly established and the bark's thickened up it matters less, but for anything newly planted it's worth being careful.

It survives around here is all I can say, dont have it myself but have seen it in gardens.

Don't forget to water them in and they will need watering over the summer.
