I don't get much of a problem with slugs eating my Hostas, I grow them in Clay pots which dry out quickly and I don't think slugs like crawling up them. I've also got some in hanging baskets but slugs don't mind climbing up there ... however I haven't noticed much slug damage on those Hostas either.

The weather here is dry and itll get drier as summer comes in. I dont think you can really over water unless its very sopping clay. A litre every 3 days is enough to sustain my driest pots so try that.Of my 25 chestnuts planted, 3 died and I think all because the soil wasnt compacted down...

Fantastic pictures, thanks for posting. I remember the Apollo missions especially the early ones. Unbelievably by the last one or two 16-17 they almost seemed routine, even though space missions are never routine. There have been enough tragedies over the years to emphasise that.

What soil is there already? ...and what do you have easy access to get? For example; local free well rotted manure, your own garden compost, spent mushroom compost, leafmold, rotted down wood chip...

I was thinking it may be meconopsis. If so I am envious!
