sal, I do agree that loads of plants are named Aloe vera by people who don't have a clue.But this is one i actually wouldnt bother with. There are so many fantastic miniature species of Aloe.

Not sure if they do much damage.You get them mainly on cacti and succulents grown under glass I think.It looks like little bits of cotton wool, and inside is a little bug that goes orange when you squidge it.

They are not really brown but could be a little bit greener.

I had a puya alpestris I grew from seed (repotting was very painful!). It was left outside all year in Nottinghamshire and grew quite happily and flowered. It died when I forgot to water it one summer, but had stood the winters no problem.

I use lengths of folded kitchen roll and as was said above, have the hole ready. Trying to get compost around the base of a prickly plant in a small pot isn't much fun

Time and effort of growing them on. Then storage during dormancy, sorting out the viable flowering sized ones, packing, transport etc.................To get the rarer species means using a specialist supplier who'll grow them on a much smaller scale.

Yeah seen one growing in an abandoned house in Crete. It had literally taken over the whole house. Plan is to keep them under control with regular pruning that's if I'm even lucky enough to get to that stage. Will prune off the shoots that I don't train up the support but don't want to touch...
