I would apply a selective weedkiller. I've done this a few times when weeds show up in the lawn.

Hi Louise, welcome to GC It looks to me as though the best thing to do would be to dig the whole lot over, remove the weeds and either turf it or seed it.Turf is easier but more expensive. This is the right time of year to sow the seeds for a new lawn. Have a read of this.

You could try over-seeding it (i.e. sowing some more grass seed on top of what you have got). Bit late in the season to be doing that now ... Autumn would be a good time if you can wait that long ... if you do it now you'll need to water to get it to germinate, unless we get a wet Summer like...

personally I'd give it a year, more if you are not in a rush. (Provided you didn't use selective weedkiller on it in the last year)

Good evening and welcome to the site. It sounds to me like a lack of water. Turf MUST be kept moist for it to establish. Grass seed needs to be lightly raked into the top inch of soil and again, kept moist. And moist MEANS moist, not soaked once a week but lightly watered every evening.

Hi Ray and welcome, I would suggest visting your nearest independent garden centre, they should stock either Gardena or Hozelock watering systems that you could probably adapt. It doesn`t hurt to ask them. David.

Hi Banjobill..even if the next door tree was felled unless all the roots were removed you'll get the fungi as that is what they feed on (Decaying wood).You could dig down and remove as much of the roots as possible but I'd go for the easy option and just brush them away as they appear ....
