Good morning all my friends as the photo comps are not very popular Woo thought he would relax all the guide lines ,and see what happens and because the photo Comps belong to you,I would really appreciate any input.objections/ideas/ etc and to see what you think, this is only Woo trying to revitalise the Photo Comps,so that they more members take part:smile:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I thought we would start with the June Photo Comp

:star:YOUR IMAGES CAN BE TAKEN FROM :star:
    ANY MONTH OR YEAR

You can enter up to three (3) IMAGES All images entered must be the intellectual and copyright property of the member

Please give your picture a title

It is perfectly in order to change any one image or all of them at any has many times as you wish my friends until the voting starts

The winner will be decided by votes by the users of the forum. Also the winner of the competition gets to choose the theme for the next month's competition.

Voting will take place immediately below the last image entry.

Sorry I haven't been participating in such a good project but I've been much too busy.

I hope others can come and help boost the competitions. :blue thumb: :)

I'm sorry @wiseowl this idea doesn't work for me. I withdrew from similar competitions on another forum with the same set up. I couldn't muster any enthusiasm for using old pictures and with the amount I have I wouldn't need to take any further photo's for GC's competitions. In my opinion it would render the competitions pointless.

However, a separate competition thread for this could be a possibility. :)

Good evening @Sheal thanks for being honest its appreciated, but I am only trying to save our photo Comps, and if you have any suggestions please let me know:smile:

        Perhaps I am fighting a losing battle,and there isn't a need for a photo comp any more:dunno:

But you wouldn't have to use old ones; you could still enter current/newly taken ones (at least, that is how I have interpreted it)

I'm backing Woo up on this one, if we can't find a format to carry on the photo comp that we can all agree on then it's not going to carry on....

It does take time to administrate and if folk aren't that interested then the staff team have got better things to do.

Woo has put his best into this during Marley's absence

The only other way I can suggest @wiseowl , is to drop the themed competitions completely and run just one monthly competition where the theme is open. In other words photo's of any subject against each other. The winners of the monthly competition could go forward to an end of year competition as previously.

With respect @"M" I think you may be missing the point. Why would anybody bother going out to take new photo's knowing that others have sat on their derriere and pressed a couple of buttons. It's not worth the effort. I have more respect for my own photography than that. No, at this point I can safely say I would withdraw from the competitions completely.

I agree Zigs and I'm sure everyone appreciates the work Woo has put in on the competitions. :)

I find this a difficult one because I can agree with both sides of the argument.

As I'm so busy most of the time I find it difficult to go out to look for the right photos for the competition. Sometimes I just happen to have taken something, usually in the garden or on holiday, that fits the criteria. so being able to use a photo from a previous time would make it much easier for me to enter the competition.

On the other hand, I think it would be a little unfair for me to do so because I have such a large stock of photos (over 70,000). So I would feel embarrassed to use any of the old ones:noidea:

I can sense just how strongly you feel on this subject @Sheal (although I would never have considered someone submitting a photograph they have taken in a different month or year equating to the description you have applied :heehee: because clearly at *some* point they have been "out there" with their camera taking what they believe/hope may be a good shot ;) ).

Anyway, it's none of my business because I don't take part :) I was merely suggesting that if the new terms were taken up, it doesn't prevent you from taking and submitting current photo's because, at the end of the day, the only person the photographer is *really* up against is themselves! To be continually improving on ones own skills? :dunno:

It's only meant to be for a bit of fun anyway :heehee: Isn't it?

I must admit to not participating as much as I used to but I sometimes struggled to take a picture on a chosen theme, even my own!
looking at the lack of entries recently I wonder if it has run it's course.

I have done the same, but I'd gain no pleasure from entering old photographs.

It is fun, but there is that degree of competitiveness in all of us don't you think? Why bother entering any competition unless we think we have a chance. :)

                    This is a shame.
Woo has been relentless in trying to keep interest in the photo comps.which has been appreciated by many.

There is one ray of hope ,they are looked at by many even if there are only a few entries.

I have taken part on and off for many years.
I remember when there were pages of entries every month and competition was......well competitive.
It seems now there are fewer keen participants, and the likelihood now is that the same one or two will win each month.
Nothing ever stays the same so it seems that there are fewer competitive members at this moment in time............It could change in a matter of months.
It is a massive responsibility for Woo and I have nothing but praise for his commitment.

I am just a casual bystander and will go with whatever is decided

                      0000000000000000000000000001581000000000000000000000000000015810Hi all,

I don't take part as much as I used to as I only use my phone, I don't have a camera and i suspect that my photos don't measure up to some of those with fancy all-singing all-dancing cameras.

Now, this brings me to my point..... You say Woo that you are going to " relax all the guidelines ".... Does this mean that people will now be able to alter their photos before posting them ?

This is one thing I feel very strongly about ( not only here but everywhere ) as I believe that a photo should be a true capture of a specific place and subject at a specific moment in time.

Also , I think the voting could be adjusted. I don't like the 3 for 1st, 2 for 2nd, and 1 for 3rd place system. It's too open for voters to alter the final results...... It also means that a photo could win without actually being anyone's favourite.

Before anyone goes off on one, I'm not saying it's happened I'm just saying it's a loophole that should be closed.

I think that Sheal is right. If it's a photo of the month competition then the photo should come from that month. Otherwise what are we going to have..... Snow scenes in August and Cornfields in December.

Perhaps also to encourage more people to enter the competition could be more gardening/plant based. After all this is a gardening forum.

I wonder how many people like me don't enter because we live in large towns or cities which means we can't compete with the beautiful seascapes, countryside views etc.

In all honesty I would like to take part but I don't have a decent camera plus I'm not a photographer of any sort.. finger bombs galore. I'm not keen on the voting/points thing either wouldn't it be simpler to go on likes?
And I agree with Anthony, old pics would be kind of missing the monthly thing and I find editing a bit naughty.
