Anyone using DuckDuckgo instead of Google? "Apparently" DuckDuckgo doesn't track you and target you with related ads and it seems to be very, very fast. www.DuckDuckgo.com
Hi Kindredspirit, I've just had a go on my phone and, sorry I don't like it. I can't enlarge the images but the main thing for me is the amount of adverts. I was reading a page on Wikipedia and between each paragraph there was an advert, plus one at the start and one at the end. So if you take this post for example there would be 6 ads.
Are you sure that was Duckduckgo putting the adverts in? I don't see any but then I use an ad blocker on my Web browser... I like DuckDuckGo but the main selling point is there "bangs" the little codes you can just add on to a search term to directly search that particular website for instance I could search for a book title and then just add !amazonuk and it would show the Amazon results page! or if you don't like the image search on duckduckgo you can do !googleimages to bring up the Google equivalent Sent from my SM-A300FU using Tapatalk
Heard about it a while ago and like the fact it makes you a little less visible online.Needless to say havent got round to trying it yet,me bad.
I'd be interested in what some of our experts think. @fat controller @clueless1 and all you others out there.
I've never tried it. To be honest I'd never even heard of it. I might give it a look. To be honest though, I quite like that Google learns about my search and browsing habits. It makes it easier to find stuff, because it builds up an idea of what exactly I might be looking for. Although it does sometimes backfire a bit. For example if I read a few articles about arthritis, as I have done since injuring myself, then it learns that I have an interest in arthritis. If I then Google, for example, leg pain, it scares me by putting all the arthritis articles up first. And now Google thinks I'm riddled with arthritis, so all the ads are for gadgets to ease the symptoms, when in fact apart from one little joint that is arthritic, most of my current injuries are muscle strains and nothing to worry about, but that doesn't stop Google telling me all about knee braces and compression bands and ibuprofen and walking frames. Still, could be worse. Imagine if I'd taken more of an interest in the new wind farm about 100 miles out to see from me, on dogger bank.
So they haven't started giving you advertisements for nursing services yet? Are you sure the word is 'dogger'?
Yep. Dogger bank, in dogger land. Where I guess the doggers came fromhttp://www.forewind.co.uk/dogger-bank/overview.html
clueless1, I see you're not very active on your own forum. http://www.neoseeker.com/forums/46510/ Picked that up from DuckDuckgo.
I've tried Duck Duck Go and prefer the fact that the results are on a scrollable page rather than on separate pages. Images are less good than on Google, Throws up different results to Google ( at least different order). I sometimes use both for the same search. I also use the HTTPS / SSL version of both.
Again I have never heard of it . Had a look - but its hard to change a search engine you are used to unless it gives some advantages.
It's nice to see an alternative to Google to be honest - how successful they will be against the Goliath that is Google remains to be seen, but there is certainly no harm in giving it a shot to see if you prefer it.
