Mine have been outside for about three weeks.
You need to acclimatise them, but I dont find them, in general, to be heat loving plants.

Thank Pete. I have been putting the Brug out during the day but bringing it in again in the evening.

Mine are too heavy to lug in and out for hardening off, so they just have to take their chances. They have been outside for 3 weeks and seem fine. No signs of flowers yet though.

No flowers showing on mine yet either.
But if we should get some warm weather,( maybe one day;)), they will get going proper.

A few days without a NE wind would be nice.

          Mine also very slow.
Planted a couple of small cuttings in the front this year in the ground.

            Hi everyone,

Just a bit of advice please :)

I've seen an advert for three double Brugmansias ( £15 ).

What I'd like to know is can I grow them permanently indoors?

            Thanks

They are pretty big plants to grow indoors - I suppose if you had a large enough conservatory (they will want a lot of light too) then it might be possible; the perfume indoors would be pretty strong I imagine too, as during the summer I can usually smell the brugs that are in the back garden when I get to my front door.

I grew quite a few from seed this year, as mine appeared to have been killed by the frost, however two of those that were unceremoniously dumped back outdoors have sprouted from the base. So, if nothing else I will have brugs and castor oil plants this year

I've tried overwintering outside, but found that they take so long coming back from the ground they dont really flower the following summer.
Even a sanguinea looked great but never managed to flower before being cut down by frost again.

But who knows, different positions, different weather, anything is possible.

Mine took -10°c over the winter of 2012/13 and bloomed again in the autumn. The trouble is that you miss out on the spring show. I grow mine in dappled shade - not sure if that makes any difference but it is their preferred natural habitat.
