@Zigs are you going to this one?

    Saturday, 6th January 2018
    10.00am - 1.30pm
    Bridport Potato Day

    Bridport United Church
    East Street
    Bridport DT6 3LY
    FREE Admission, refreshments.

If so, and if they have Mayan Twilight Potatoes (Tubers) , Mayan Twilight - 2008, Seed Potato for Planting (in Season) could you check if they actually look as good as the images of them on the web? Although they may not have them in stock that early, you appear to have possibly the first Potato Day in the UK.

I've got potato days on Thur 22nd Feb at West Oxford ( @Zigs same people as at Bridport) and Buckingham on Sat 24th Feb (where I normally pick the brains of attendant NVS members).

Depending on an email confirmation of varieties available, I might even attend the East Anglia potato day, failing that confirmation I might have to try and get Eastern European contacts to obtain what I want.

These look rather nice. I’ve read the description, which sounds good, but have you tasted them?

Not yet, only saw them online last year (or year before) and. they've been impossible to find on sale local enough to have a look at them before buying, plus avoid expensive shipping charges for an untried variety.

There's another one fairly close by, also attended by Pennard Plants.

How much fo they charge for single tubers?

I think the size of tuber I normally select is around 80g, so approx. 30 from a 2.5 Kg net, which might cost at least £4 for less commpon varieties, would be 20p/tuber, so that appears to be an OK price. I think the Hampshire Potato Day charge 17p/tuber, but with a £2 admission. (So £2.34 for your 2 spuds).

Compared to Poundland charging £1 for 8 tiddlers, individual potato day prices seem cheap.

As mentioned on the 2017 thread, I've been unable to source any Kondor seed spuds this year as none appear to now be available. Maybe the producers will re-do the cross and build up new stocks for sale, or maybe their breeder rights are too close to expiry and they wont bother.

But I've saved this one and at least 2 other bigguns from last year, so will have to resort to something I don't normally do, re-use last year's crop as seed spuds. To produce the maximum number of plants the 3 tubers will be chitted, then buried in shallow trays of compost, and when the individual sprouts have produced sufficient roots they'll be carefully removed and potted up, hopefully leaving just one sprout on each tuber for those to be planted in the normal way.
