My neighbour bought a detector as he assembled it I placed a old penny in his lawn. He found it straight away and was overjoyed. 'I will treasure this as the first thing I ever found' I looked over a bit later holes everywhere in his lawn. I never told him didn't have the heart.

Wonderful achievement. There is something mysterious about the sea.

Hi redstar, I'm not one for reading but I will get this book,

I have a big interest in metal detecting here in the uk, I don't live near the sea but if I did and could swim it would be on my things to do list,

I'm just watching a series on uk TV, Coopers Treasure, no doubt you will have watched it maybe been involved ?,

Please don't tell me anything that will spoil the programme  its only one day a week and look forward to watching it :).

Some distant involvement with Coppers Treasures. But closer, of course with Mel Fishers. We again go down in May to assist. My friend brings her metal detector down with her, she roams the beaches there in Key West. and she finds coins. Another friend down there found two engagement rings. There is a forum called Treasure Hunters, that is quite active if you wish to get on it. Has different subject matters from Antique hunting to deep sea treasure hunting discussions. Kind of interesting.

This is the forum, I am referring to:

Saw some great items which had been found using metal detectors on display in a museum in Lincoln last week - coincided well with your comments. It must be incredibly exciting to find things. Imagine if your friend had found the owners of the engagement rings. I will enjoy having a look at the forum you have linked to.

Lots of civil war museums here have displays from folks that have metal detecting on open fields where battles were fought. Down in Virginia are quiet a few, over in Gettysburg etc. Its a good hobby to keep in shape.

Thanks @Gail_68 . In May we have scheduled a day to be on Mel Fisher's boat which is anchored out above the sunken Atocha Ship. will assist with sifting through the sea sediment that the divers will get up to the top of the boat to find --fingers crossed---a few emeralds. Aside from that, the rest of the week will be gatherings with friends as we do each year. Have to schedule a fishing trip too, love to fish.

Possible. More important there are a few National Geographic segments that has been made interviewing Mel Fisher and what he found, how he found it, etc. And currently what they are doing in finding more stuff below.
