I like Monty Don, he's not so "in your face" as some of the other less able garden programme presenters. I could never stand the "perennial plant potter," Titchmarsh, who used to turn up in "everything" until the networks got a bit sick of him.

I've only just found this thread.................

I've been an avid watcher of the French series Spiral since the first series. Series six has just finished but keep your eyes open for series seven in 2019. That's plenty of notice I think!!!

        Spiral - BBC Four

It is one of the great series and bears comparison with Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Shadowline, NYPD Blue, The Bridge (Danish/Swedish) and The Killing (Swedish again).

Spiral is wonderful. Such fantastic acting, better than anything I’ve watched for years. Don’t let having to read subtitles put you off, you don’t notice after a while. It really is one of the greats.

Not a film but a DVD

I picked up Blade Runner 2049 in Sainsbury's yesterday for a tenner.

I saw the original film at the cinema in 1982, when it was released, Sean Young and Daryl Hannah at their most attractive, then many years later bought the VHS tape of it when it was out of fashion and reduced to clear at £2.99 in W H Smiths (I also bought at the same price from the same bin, the VHS tape of Robert Palmer's every music video). A few years later Blade Runner was back to full price.

I've also got a cassette of the music from the film by Vangellis.
I later bought the DVD of both versions.
I've also got a hardback copy of the K W Jeter book "Blade Runner 2 The Edge of Human." That was remainered in Waterstones twenty years ago.

So you could say I was a fan.

I enjoyed the film, though I needed the subtitles on for much of it, the sound was so bad (never need them with the original)

The ending was a bit "tears in rain," or rather "tears in snow."

@Doghouse Riley did you have surround sound? We've seen the first one and just bought the new one called 2049. It's on blue ray and we've got surround sound.
When we get chance to watch it,i don't know.

I've not got surround sound. I can push the audio through my hi-fi speakers, but usually just use my sound bar and bass box. It has a "clear speech" setting which is a bit of an oxymoron.

It's a long film, two and a half hours.

I always wait for the films I'd like to see to come out on DVD, as I did the last Bourne film. Two cinema tickets are more than the cost of a DVD.

What makes it so great for me is that it is not so much about the crime investigation storyline but more about the characters, their relationships and the way that they develop as people. That is what NYPD Blue did so well.
Have you seen the season finale?

I'm a fan too. I enjoyed it but the 'real' one was much better. 2049 got a bit too wrapped up in the whizz bang effects for my tastes.

I've always liked Ridley Scott films, he had a penchant at one time for huge slow moving fans in the background. There's a documentary on the making of it. Rutger Hauer claimed credit for some of Roy Batty's "Tears in Rain," speech.

In one of the episodes of the Jesse Stone dramas I've got on my HDR, Sean Young had a small part, in a bikini, she still looked that good.

The music in the latest film is nowhere near as good as that in the original.

In the book I mentioned, it's the story carrying on from where the film left off. Rachel turns out to be a real person. But was Deckard actually a replicant?

I've just downloaded that documentary as an MP4, put it on a USB stick and will upload it to my HDR's memory tomorrow.

Hubby has bought a new Blu-ray player it will come today. The old one broke down and he wanted to go to the next level. HDR (high dynamic range) Got the new film on blu-ray disc of Blade Runner 2049, which is the follow on from the first one. Hope to watch it tonight.
