    A few months later
    Ferns grown nicely.
And I have made a small change. Took out the Sedum, and replaced it with a Cheilanthes argenteum

That's good. Nice colour and form combinations. Lovely.

        Thanks

I want to put another one together.
Need a few more of these specialist ferns, but they are hard to come by.

Enquire off of this guy on Farcebook Martin Begley
He grows extraordinary, amazing ferns. I don't think he does mail order but you can ask. Anyway, he'll put you in the right direction for sourcing ferns.

I have moved the trough under the overhang by the front door. Don't want too much winter rain getting onto it

I hope it wasn't too heavy. You'd need a forklift to lift mine. :(

I was at the garden centre on the weekend and ended up buying another trough.
This one is a bit deeper than the one above.

Now I need some bits to fill it with

Choice Saxifrages. Best plants for troughs. :)

I want more Xeric ferns. But they are hard to come by.

I got spore of about 5 species of Cheilanthes from the BPS, and have just sown them. But that's a long term project.

Have you tried Polypodiums; they're good in troughs but not xeric, though.

Polystichums can take dry as well.

Slightly OT but a two years ago I decided to plant some permanent hanging baskets at the side of my house which gets limited direct sunlight.

I decided on two asplenium scolopendrium plants.
                    Last year they looked lovely.

                    Here's a pic from 2016.
