    Guys,
Please see attached pics of a palm that I planted about 3 years ago. It has come along quite well since then having used a plant 'n' forget policy.

Now, firstly I have forgoten which type of palm it is.
Also, look at the proximity to the fence.

    Questions:

Please advise which type of palm it is.
Is it too close to fence?
Should I move it to a more open area?
Is now a good time to move it?

    Any advice welcome.

    Michael

No idea about palms I'm afraid, but if its survived this winter it's obviously one of the hardier ones and therefore might get big so I'd probably give it more space. Sorry I can't be more helpful but nice palm, good luck with it :blue thumb:

Looks like a trachycarpus fortunei to me. Hardy and can be fast growing if happy and well fed, trunk might grow to a foot wide. I would move it to an open spot.
Get as much rootball as possible and keep it well watered till established. It may sulk for up to a year or may take off. They are all different.
Great plants and will soon be banned from entering the UK so will become more sought after and valuable.

            Definitely Trachycarpus fortunei.

I would move it, they get really big. I have moved them when they are much larger and they eventually recover. At that size provided you get enough root ball it will hardly notice provided you do it now before active growth start.

I would also remove those grass weeds as the roots are very close to the surface and suffer accordingly. Give it a good mulch after you transplant.

Theres a plague of palm weevil across Europe with palms dying off across spain france etc plus theres another disease going about thats equally damaging.

The UK have a ban comining into force in 2 years banning the importation of plants that havent been quarantined by the growers.

The uk market is small so the thinking is the growers wont bother separating plants just to satisfy the uk market new quartanine rules so no palms will be coming here except for very small young ones grown from seed by growers.

This must be the first time the uk gov has got its act together with decisive action to try and prevent the easy spread of plague/pest into the UK.

Must be a Brexit thing allowing us to determine our own disease/border control again

I read most of that @NigelJ , but couldn't see anything saying about cold tolerance of the beetle/ grubs, just kind of wondering if our last cold spell might have been too much for them.

Did some hacking back of the Chamaerops today, it was really overgrown and becoming infested with Ivy.
Anyway, gave me a chance to have a close look, nothing suspicious was found, also revealed the trunk of the Waggie, not much chance of checking out the top, but the bottom of the trunk appears ok.
