    Hi,

We have an old Toshiba L300 latop, now upgraded to W10 and use it just for online banking.
However when it does security scans or the monthly windows updates, we might as well go and so some supermarket shopping its so slow.

Thinking about upgrading to something with some more useful speed.
Just need a decent screen size, a more usable speed performance for W10 and a wire ethernet connector and at a reasonable price.

Have seen this one which has an i3 processor whereas all other lower priced laptops seem to have the N series chips which we gather are almost as slow as our old Tosh.

Any suggestions of something more suitable ?

( might look on gumtree for a s/h one locally but again not sure if which models would be best)

    thanks.

I'm using a HP now and I wouldn't buy one again. Look up "laptop plugged in not charging". The net is awash with people wanting help to sort this issue with HP's out. I've lost count of how many times I've had this error message and had to go through an inconvenient process so that my laptop will charge again. Honestly, don't bother.

This is in no way any reflection on what our good friend @Fern4 has posted above, who has valid and sound reasons for not recommending HP and I can fully understand this:smile:

Good evening @ricky101 I have always had HP's laptops, and have had no problems with them, but then I suppose its like cars, and is a personal choice on what experience's you have had with different names and models,at the moment I have.

Mines ok, Packard Bell,I do have 8 Gb memory, but I've not gone anywhere near W10, hear so much about it being slow and updating then not working.
I tend to think the problem is W10.
Just looking, I have an AMD Quad core processor A4 5000.
          Whatever that means.

Not well up on pricing but that one looks a bit expensive for what it is @ricky101

I have a three year old HP, my other half's is just a couple of months old and three other members of my family have them. All with no problems. :) Previous to that we had Acers without issue, the only reason for changing was that Acer changed the lay-out of the keyboard lettering from the middle of the keys to the top left-hand corner.

I bought a Dell 2 in 1 with 360 degree hinge last year and it's brilliant. Came with Windows 10 and handles it flawlessly. Think the model is a 5378

I hardly ever use my laptop now since having an I Pad for over three years.

I thought all keyboards had the lettering on the top left. Seems like lots off laptops have them centred for some reason . Learning something everyday

HEY, look who it itsn't !!! welcome back :dbgrtmb:

Good to hear you are on the mend.

Sadly will not longer need a new laptop as my health has suddenly gone badly down hill in the last day or so, just trying to come to terms with things at the moment, still a bit shell shocked, as I am sure you know only too well.

                          Ain't life fun :old:

I had a a new Lenovo B50-50, in 2016 from a local computer repair centre, I've always used, they finally couldn't keep my old HP laptop going.

They uploaded all my programmes and stuff I'd saved on a separate hard disc. It cost £350.
