I'm no fan of Boris Johnson, I think he is a right prat.

But if he's downfall turns out to be just a few words about letter boxes and bank robbers then I think we have reached a very sad position.
He should have be ousted on plenty of occasions in the past, in my view for stupid gaffs but on this one the media has certainly grabbed the race cards and grabbed the PC high ground.

Any thoughts as to where this leaves freedom of speech in the UK, I know we have never really had that, other than for certain preachers that are probably best not mentioned.
Personally I'm glad I'm getting on a bit, dont think I want to live in this kind of stupidity for much longer.

Should add Pregnant fish has nothing to do with my comments, that is just more stupidity on behalf of Gardeners Corner.
      Thankyou.

When the right to freedom of speach is stamped on by the do gooders,pc brigade and media then far right far left and other undesirables start to use this as avreason why it is now ok to use violence to get your way.

Sadly this country is going this way. Soon it will be time for the silent majority to take a stand and say its time to get this broken country back on its feet.

        Troubling times ahead........:sofa::runforhills:

Were you trying to post something about a place in Orkney?

Let's see whether this gets changed:

Boris Johnson is a complete and utter Dounby.

I couldn't have put it better myself!

Well, first off Boris has held high office in the government of this country and still has designs on the highest office of all (sadly he is too stupid/conceited to see that Jacob Rees-Mogg is playing him like a puppet though) and as such the limit of what is acceptable is different to that of you and I.
Secondly, belonging to the landed gentry and having had the benefit of a very expensive education gives him no more right to be offensive than plebs like ushave the right. Whoever it came from it was offensive. Maybe he thought that he was being funny but sadly he was no more funny than Bernard Manning or Roy Chubby Brown (except to knuckle dragging members of the BNP).
Thirdly, most of us do find the enforced wearing of the burqa, hijab etc offensive. To devalue the argument in the way that he did devalues the debate.
Finally, what does it say about free speech? It is alive and well but as in all walks of life there are limits. He simply overstepped the mark and hopefully this will see the end of him.

Nah, best not do religion. If nothing else I suspect that we may end up agreeing on something :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

I saw him perform in February 1982, so may have heard that before.

                      On a more serious note................
My thoughts are that it is OK to be be "offensive" in response to a persons attitude or actions. However, when someone has an affliction or disability, or the point in question is out of their control (as in a woman being made to wear a burqa or hijab) then it is not acceptable.

Hit the nail on the head there @Jiffy.:blue thumb:

Far too many sensitive people around these days, but my thoughts are that had this particular "Gaff" by Boris just been ignored, half the world would never have heard about it.

But "the Media", grabbed it, then set about making a big issue of it, which now seems to have been taken up by a bunch of Muslims in high places who are throwing their toys out of the pram regarding something that to be honest is pretty trivial.

As I said earlier, where this leaves us regarding free speech is up the creek without a paddle.

We must all walk on egg shells from now on for fear of saying one word out of place or god forbid even speaking your mind.

If as you say women are being made to wear this kind of thing, rather than doing it of her own free will, maybe there is a case for banning this kind of thing in the UK.
In much the same way as other more sensible countries are doing.

The BBC tweeted earlier with a headline stating that the Muslim Council of the UK want to make sure the investigation into Boris' comments isn't a "whitewash" - so I tweeted back that I considered the use of the term "whitewashed" to be racist, and that I was offended.......... that probably had people running around the BBC social media office, bumping into each other for a wee while
