I personally don't use any organic feed but what one you use is a personal choice as there are so many on the market or you could mix your own formula

I use Blood, Fish & Bone on lots of my flowers. My roses haven't complained.

Responding to Tangham, Wise Owl and JWK. Yes there are so many packets, boxes etc of fertilizers on the market. Each one packed and labelled to catch your eye. Also YES, many will be 'recommended by some gardening society or personality' There's big money in advertising.

Perhaps an area where we each fall down is. Do I really need this product. Perhaps more important. Does my garden or whatever plant I am buying it for. Is it really needed? I think it's fair to say. Roses will tolerate and most likely seem to do well on whatever they are fed. Likewise many other woody type members of the garden. Due to their make-up, they can handle excessive amoints of the three main componants, listed as NPK, nitrogen, phosphorous and potash.

Take as an example Blood, Fish and Bone. Chemically blood has a nitrogen rating of 12-13. Some would consider this far too high for most plants, add to this the chemical ratings for, fish and bone. Quite a concoction. Never mind. If you are happy with it and your plants don't outgrow themselves, be it so.

Wise Owl says he doesn't use any organic feed on his roses. Judging by his vast knowlege of roses, I imagine his roses are certainly a credit to him. A good organic mulch will equal or better any packeted product.

With the greatest respect to all gardeners. Learn to tell what your plants need, before spending out. Pot and container plants usually do require some feeding, due to their restricted root and soil space.
