Plastics.

I posted a thread on Garden Forum way back,December 13th 2017 regarding Biodegradable and Degradable Plastics.
I said in my post back then, the world would have to pay for these Plastics,the world is now paying for it!
It is coming Faster than we thought with all the so called Degradable and Biodegradable plastics being dumped all over the world.
Stronger Action Is Required to Rid The World Of This Disaster .

 

I see that some old landfill sites are to mined for their plastics and more valuable metals. If the oil price keeps rising it will become economically viable to turn old plastics back into oils again, hopefully.
Salvation may also come from a newly discovered bacteria that can rapidly break down plastics.

 

The whole ‘plastic thing’ really irritates me , I’m trying really hard to NOT use plastic where I can, I have my cotton shopping bags, jute shopping bags & few bags for life, I carry my reusable cup & lid everywhere I go....I refuse to buy a cup of rip
Off coffee from the likes of ‘those’ large coffee shops!
Then I go out with the outlaws, we go to the coast & have fish & chips....MIL pulls out a packet of plastic knives & forks (I want to scream!) I decline her kind offer of plastic knives & forks & use my fingers ....I pull out a tissue from my handbag to wipe my hands before I get out of their car to go to the public toilets to wash my hands....MIL offers me a baby wipe ....don’t start me on those ruddy things!...ok I’m on one now....ruddy floor wipes, hand wipes, baby wet ones, pampers botty wipes, leather wipes, dettol wipes etc etc....what’s wrong with a cloth which gets washed on a hot wash to kill all germs?? Or some soap & water to wash hands?? ....then I go into work & a member of the night shift team brings me a coffee in a ruddy plastic disposable cup...I want to scream!
Fruit wrapped in plastic in the supermarket...as a kid fruit was bought in a paper bag!
Ok...I’ve had my rant but I do believe I have a point, if everyone made a few small changes we really could make a difference, we could save the world .....or at least save the world for a bit longer! #saynotoplastic

Plastic should be reduced in packaging etc BUT the big problem is litter bugs And countries that don't care.. If they went in the recycle, not garbage/landfill, and properly disposed of, they would not be in the ocean.

Yes. Less plastic but YES what is used should be disposed of properly.

How the heck does it get in the ocean if some numpty didn't help send it there!

 

I went shopping with my daughter Amanda today, it's one way of helping her out, as I pick up the tab. We went to Sainsbury's at the Greenwich Penninsular. All the various aisles and shelves. Every item wrapped and contained in plastic. Fair do's times have changed but. Here we go again. I remember. OK in past times there were no supermarkets. It was the corner shop or the bigger store in town. You had your own shopping bag. At the greengrocers, spuds were first in the bag, followed by whatever. Next the grocers. Butter, chesse and the like was cut etc and wrapped in paper. Eggs were put in brown paper bags and the shop keeper would almost theough them at you and give the bag a few twists,very seldom did you get a broken egg. The butchers, the meat was chosen and prepared if required, wrapped in paper. Back home,the shopping was unloaded. Many homes had no fridge or freezer, yet we still managed. Seldom was there any waste from meals. Animal, fish or fowl, the bones or carcass went into the pot and came out as soup or whatever. Today we tend to fall into a traps. Yes! it's good to try something new,perhaps from the otherside of the world but. Being as even today, many are a bit short of cash. Did I really need to buy that? Could I have bought my veg at a market stall wothout the plastic wrappings???????????????????????????????????????

 

We're ok here as we have a cow that eats plastic, yes that's plastic sheeting

 

I remember the ice man coming by. I ĎO NOT miss those days. I make choices every day. The egg carton that is cardboard instead of styrofoam etc.

We are pretty anal about making sure the contents of the wheelies are properly sorted too. We are a long ways from being a smart footprint but we do need to heat our homes during the winter wnen it is minus 15f.

At least we, don't have giant fires here to pollute the skies anymore. I have mixed feelings about bonfires because I enjoyed them when I was a kid and loved the smell of burning leaves but it has been banned here for some thirty years.. We , for free, can have our plant/tree edits picked up and taken to be shredded and composted. Then the next spring, we can all descend and shovel the rewards. Again, for free. Yes,we have to drive about 10 kliks to get it, but it stops a lot of waste and smoke.

I do get a little irate when the greenies push for more. One said that a coffee stain on a newspaper made it non recyclable. P on that. Next they'll want us to eat our own garbage.

End of rant. Buy greener if possible ...
