I find all the seasons so rich and rewarding. So my friend, you live close to the garden. So peaceful, exit the sound of rolling wheels on the M25 and join the slip roads. Paradise.

Lovely photos @JWK. Hope the Bonsai are well guarded as they are worth a fortune:yikes: A friend of mine has a few which he was given when he was 12, he's now 71. His trees originally came from a relative in Japan. I saw them last week looking wonderful , similar to some in your photo. He has arranged to leave them to his daughter when he departs this earth. Daughter wasn't vastly enthusiastic about this prospect until my friend advised her that they are worth well over £25,000:rolleyespink:, he also advised her that he would come back and haunt her if she sold them:)

Funnily enough we were thinking that as we walked around, because someone had stolen a big statue from Wisley a few weeks ago. Goodness knows how they got it out.

In the trials fields there is a sign informing us that many plants have been stolen over the last few months, visitors are causing more damage than rabbits and deer - it's a poor show.

The Wisley Bonsai are wired down but I hadn't realised they were worth that much!

There's quite a few access points around the site so probably wasn't that tricky but it is very disheartening that all this thievery goes on

I too didn't have a clue as to the value of some of these Bonsai and thought my friend was perhaps exaggerating. I did a little "research" on the net and from what I could gather he was definitely not "gilding the lily":rolleyespink:.

Nothing seems safe these days. A pal who lives slap bang in the middle of Edinburgh, had (accent on the had:gaah:) quite a nice really big ceramic pot filled with annuals outside the door to her house. She had had it sitting in the same spot for about 20 years until 6 weeks ago when it was pinched. The flowers and soil were turfed out all over her house entrance presumably to lighten the pot. Even so it would have taken 2 really strong guys to lift it. She isn't going to bother to replace it as reckons the same thing would happen again. Sad state of affairs. Glad I don't live in a big city anymore.

Thanks @Marley Farley - it will be worth visiting again if you ever get the chance. The gardens have changed considerably over the years, new areas have been planted and improved. Every time we go it seems there is something new. The new welcome entrance area is underway and due to open next spring. Just this week we noticed all the small model gardens are being dug up and three new gardens are going to replace those. I guess you last visited before the new glasshouse was opened about 10 years ago? I think it rivals the Kew glasshouses and again there is always something different happening inside, some exhibition or specialist plant show.

I curtain,y hope I get there again JWK.. Looking at your pics it looks very different to when I was there and they didn’t have a glass house to rival Kew’s when I was there.. I think I need to put it on next years to do list I think..:SUNsmile:

Well worth the trip Marley! Not sure the glasshouse rivals Kew but it is a spectacular place (and has a waterfall)
