We have a Mr & Mrs Hedgy who sometimes put in an appearance but then they dissappear for a week or so. I'd love to know where they go :rolleyespink::spinning:

Or don't leave checking to the last minute, when it may be dark, raining, etc., and do it at a convenient time of day in advance, then encircle the bonfire with a low 'chicken' mesh fence. A 10m roll of mesh (bought 75% off at end of season from Wilko for a couple of quid) will encircle a 3m/10 feet dia. bonfire.

I always check me bonfires before i light them :dbgrtmb: as we had 5 hogs all through the summer, now just one visting hog at night but a week ago we had two very small hoglets looking for food in the day time so now there in our garage being fed and watered (about the size of an apple) they've got their very own run made for them (i'm spoiling them ;)) and cctv to watch what they get up to :snorky:

I always check our bonfire heap first and run a pole into the bottom of it and rattle it around. Our bonfires are usually around 7ft diameter and 7ft high and we can have a couple a month at this time of year - about once a month the rest of the time.

I never know whether rattling through the heap is enough - it can certainly chase rabbits out - so I start the burning from 2 or 3ft up from the bottom. :noidea:

I have 3 Hedgehogs as permanent residents in the garden due to the fact they can't dig under the fences or under the Garden Gate............so they're safe enough.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee::thumbsup:
