I know I've promised plants, cuttings and seeds to various members and I'm wondering if it would be OK to get them off to you in the next couple of weeks? As the Post can be variable at the best of times, and as no-one really knows how things will pan out after the end of March, it might be best to do it now? The only people whose addresses I don't have are longk and FC, so if you'd like to PM me with those, I'll get wrapping!:)

Thanks for the offer FC! I'll give it a week, as I'm not sure they'd survive two sessions in the post!

Getaway! More likely sunning himself in the Canaries amongst all those lovely tropical plants! What are they voting against this time? Perhaps all this faffing about is designed to ensure that the EU kicks the UK out? No blame attaches to UK government and erroneous belief that it's all EU's fault confirmed by UK media? Neat! Don't care...I became French last Saturday:hapfeet::yahoo::sofa:

It's as feasible a theory as any other flying about at the moment :roflol:
I wasn't offered a choice! Wonder how much my old UK passport would fetch on Fleabay?
Is it OK if I get some Lantana Montevidensis off to you next week? Anything else you'd like?

                  :)

Some friends of ours moved to France nine months ago (had been living in Hong Kong) and have already got their French driving licences and applied for French passports. They said the paperwork was bureaucratic but fairly easy and a lot of their British friends out there, who have been there for years, haven't bothered to do anything! They said they have their heads in the sand! They said it was so easy they can't understand why they haven't done it.

Its easy to understand the reason. They are full of stupid arrogance that says "it cant happen to us!":sofa:

In a case of arrogance on my part, how the referendum can be considered democratic when (estimates vary) between 1 and 4 million British citizens living in the EU were not allowed a vote is beyond me! Many of them contribute to the British economy as well, by paying taxes, owning property that they rent out, and in some cases even employ people, but still were not allowed a vote.

Is it illegal to send a bag of sawdust to the Government to replace the amount they have lost from inside their heads?

Are you sure they've applied for French passports? AFAIK you have to be naturalized to obtain one and believe me, applying for nationality is far from easy, quick or cheap! Between €500 and €1000 for the obligatory language qualification, translations of birth, marriage certificates etc., and up to two years between submitting the request, the rigorous interview, and confirmation. What is more likely is that they've applied for Titres de Séjour...a residence permit. Even those aren't given out with the Rice Crispies! A lot of ex-pats bottled out because of the language requirements, and the need to prove a decent level of integration.

It's quite likely it's residents' permits but they said it went very easily - with the help of the mayor in their town. They're going to language classes and are finding it fairly easy. I think that having lived in a number of countries has helped them integrate very well and they say that they have more friends locally in the nine months than they had in their six years in Hong Kong living in the ex-pat community. They've joined a number of different types of clubs (Brits and French members) and get on very well with everyone.

Well this is the kind of thing I dont understand, it's not easy to become a French citizen, and neither should it be, but as soon as the UK start putting obstacles in the way of making it more difficult for people to become British citizens the Bleeding Heart fraternity come out in their droves.
Yeah well tell the Windrush people that.

That was my experience too. The Maires and their secretaries are the first port of call for new residents. They're mostly very helpful, very 'hands-on' in the community. Mine is only 25 but he's transformed our village since he was elected. His youth poses a tricky dilemma, though. In theory, one uses 'vous' to show respect to official figures, Maires, doctors, the elderly. But older people use 'tu' to someone younger. And he's younger than just about everyone here . Ambitious chap, though....I would be surprised if he doesn't end up as President one day!
