    Hi,

An ad in RT for a collection of 5 shrub roses for £14.95 caught our eye and they seem a good offer, assuming they are the more modern type that do repeat flower as they say.

Wonder if anyone has experience of these roses and the supplier You Gardens of York ?

Sounds like a good offer but does not name the varieties.

Good morning @ricky101 They are bare root roses and seem like a good deal, but They do say they can be grown in containers and borders plus they also state they are are similar to the ones shown at Chelsea, which leaves me a little wary, but I have contacted them and am awaiting an answer and I will get back to you:smile:

That’s what I was thinking; could be duff varieties that no one wants. Good of you to contact them to ask @wiseowl .

              Hi @wiseowl,

Thanks for your efforts though after looking at the price of such similar shrub roses locally today for their price decided for order a pack from You Garden.

My thoughts on the fact they have no names its that they are probably so similar to well known brand suppliers like Austins etc that any similar sounding names might incur legal problems ?

When You Garden are selling 5 shrub roses for less than one from Austins (£18) its worth a try ...?

Its a 50/50 gamble I know, can always complain to Radio Times for duping their customers and saying I will switch to TV Times instead.

Will let you know if it pays off in the Summer with some pics....

              Thanks again.

I haven't had Roses off them but I have had other plants and both they and their service was excellent.
I would never personally buy Roses direct from David Austins. You can get the same for a lot less money elsewhere.

Good afternoon @Redwing @ricky101 this is the email I received:smile:

So lets deduce from this answer that this is indeed strange to say the least as we all know Rose Nurseries only sell Bare Root from November to March :dunno:

                  Good afternoon Woo
                  Thank you for your email.
I am afraid that we can not say what the Roses will be as they might change through the year.
If we can be of further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.
                  Kind Regards

                    Hi @wiseowl ,

Thanks for your investigations, seems they don't want to say though I would suspect they are 'clones' of the named varieties.

As long as they add some colour thoughout the summer we will be happy enough at the price.

They are going in a small border in front of a south west facing 6ft fence panels with sweet peas climbing up the post to add some extra height, so we should smell nice if nothing else :)

Sounds bad to me. I would avoid this offer. No indication as to size, habit etc so it would be impossible to choose a suitable site to plant them. Also there are many many different roses shown at Chelsea, even some hideous ones.

For @ricky101 s sake I hope some turn out to be ok.

The Roses arrived Friday , well packed with strong rootstocks and healthy looking tops, though a little on the smaller size than I was expecting but plenty of signs of new growths buds etc.

Even the 'free' extra 5 skyscraper lilies and Freesia bulbs are good quality and healthy, not dried up husks.

For the price cannot fault them and delivered as quick as they said.

Hopefully can post some nice pics of the blooms in summer :hapflowers2:

Good luck @ricky101 , I hope you get a brilliant show and healthy plants. :)

Poundland has bare root roses just now, the varieties are "red, pink, white and yellow. " Some are shrubs, some climbing, and there is no indication on size- however all claim to flower all summer. Interesting.... might be worth the gamble.
