The deed is done, the good news is I'm still alive but my GP is fast tracking me to see a specialist because she has concerns, they also took an armful of blood!

I wouldn't have done this without Carol!

Vince my friend. I was 60yrs old when I had my first blood test.. Inside I was terrified. Iasked if I could lie down while the vampires did their job.

This all stems from my upbringing. My mum was 43 when she found I was on the way. Both mum and my sister 16 yrs my peer, wrapped me up in cotton wool so to speak. My dad was strict military style, fought in two world wars etc. If I happened to cut myself, I was afraid. mum would be saying. That's a bad cut. you can see the bone etc. Me I became more fearful of what was being said. Once or twice, dad gave me a clip about the ear and said, snap out of it you big tit, be a man. Even when I was a traffic cop, I attended many blood stained accidents , and yes. It was a hard fight to keep my breakfast down. In later years, I found that GP's tended to send you for blood tests. Suddenly finding these phlebotomist really do know their job, I began to relax. However the sight of blood still troubled me. Then one evening I need a pee. Glancing down. No no great specimem of manhood.... tweezers and magnifying glass are available... OH NO! there in the toilet was not just water an urine but the dreaded red stuff. So now. Do I pass out or what. For me anything to do with blood also carries with it my religious conviction. Next morning. Off to the GP surgery.

Morning ladies. I need to se Dr Plana immediately. Have you an appointment NO. Then you will have to make an appointment. We can fit you in say one months time. No fair lady. I need to see the doc now. I am peeing blood. Within ten miutes I was talking to my GP. He booked an appointment with the local urology dept. I was examined with the week and was told. Yes. You have bladder cancer. That was in2014. Since then I have had four operations, no problems. Who knows had I held back. The condition would have got worse and by today. the cancer could be spread throuout my body. OK I read medicine for three years, so I have some idea of how things work. Vince my friend. When it comes down to you and your health. Get help. stop buggering about. Get a diagnosis tehn decide what you want to do.

I sincerely wish you all the very best.
