Old Faithful

She's 14 years old but still first in the queue for "walkies", she tries to live up to her kennel club name "majestic mayhem" and has got increasingly noisy as she gets older! She's a Border Collie, my constant companion and I love her to bits! Why won't Carol let me get another Border Collie puppy when she finally goes to the great pasture in the heavens?

She'll never be replaced in my heart but I do love Border Collies!

 

Cant beat a border collie IMO.

 

It’s something most of us have to deal with Vince.....the loss of “old faithful”. Very emotional when it happens.

It’s a natural response I think to say “never again” when the sad day comes. I’m sure Carol will come round to accept another dog but a period of time to grieve perhaps Vince??

 

I agree with @Verdun . It is natural to think “I can’t go through this again”....

Our mad-haired Weimaraner is now 12.5 years old. We have had one who lived to 13 yrs 1 month, and one to 12 years 1 month, so we know our time with her is getting shorter. We both feel that we want another dog, but because of my increasing need to help look after Mum, and the long journeys that involves, we might try to cope with a period of time when we are dog-less.

Maybe Carol cannot face the trauma and stress of another puppy? When Izzy finally goes, I will be contacting the breed rescue, to let them know that we would consider taking on another rescue LH. If a rescue dog has not come through by the time we are ready to take on a new friend, we will get a puppy, but we will allow Chance to have her say too. Yes, you do sometimes get problems that another home has made, but with love, consistency and understanding, they very quickly come round....

 

I go to the loo, she lays by door, I go into the garden and she's never more than 5' away, she's a pain in the butt at times but she's mine and I love her more than you could imagine!

 

Mine used to "follow" me but from infront.

She didn't know where I was going, but wanted to get there first.

So there was me walking up the garden tripping over her as I went, but miss that badly.

 

Can't beat a dog. Always there, happy and never grow up.
I had a rescue border colliex for over 15 years, three legs, never gave up. When he was 9 when a customer have me a 1yr springer who had been left to do his own thing, he was a complete pain until the collie died, like a switch was clicked he just changed, wanted to be "the one" until at 13 he dropped dead.
For 5 months searching a chance look at a local rescue centre a 4/6 years springer, walked through the door and sat under my legs. Stan the perfect dog.
It hurts like mad when they go so I remember the fun and smiles then when you get another it starts the fun again but so does the dusting

 

Carol says I can't have "another" Border Collie, ok, suits me, I'll get 2? :rasp:

The dog or the missus, in my case the dog won.

 

Tess is really looking tired but she still tries, the mind is willing but she can't jump 8' gates anymore, she has trouble getting on the sofa or getting in the car! I know it's only a matter of time before I have to say goodbye (I won't let her suffer), she has been my anchor and I adore her!

 

You will know when the time has come Vince,after all you are an experienced Dog lover.
When that spark has gone from their eyes,then you'll know.
