DWP. Dept of Works & Pensions. Oh, Oh! a brown envelope in my post box.

YIPPEEEEEEEE! My old age pension is being increased.

Dear Mr Allen, blah blah etc. As you are approaching your 80th birthday. Your state pension is being increased by......................................................................................................................................25p a week.

    WOW!
In all honesty. I am not well off. Yes I have paid my dues over the years. Yes as Tescos say. Every little helps. Me. I live in what may be called, the poverty zone. However, I am thankful for what I get. I have a roof over my head. My present pensions etc take care of things. I have no debt. I am able to help out financialy my kids. But! lets be honest. HM. GOV. is giving me and many others. 25p a week extra. Honestly, come on ladies lets go shopping. I have 25p. now then what can I get for that.?

So sorry. I take this as an insult.
    What say you?

        I agree a complete insult.
I'm guessing this goes back to the days when it was 5 bob and it was actually worth having.
Because it's such a pitiful amount no government has even bothered to stop it.
Had it been worthwhile it would have been stopped years ago.

Well, you could treat yourself to a Kinder Happy Hippo every week, with a penny to spare!
          Hippo.png
Or, you could save up, 25p a week makes a staggering £13 a year. That could be used for a celebrational pub lunch on courtesy of DWP.

£13 would also buy a nice bottle of wine to toast to the powers above. Or you could buy a bottle of fashionable Prosecco and give it to someone in hope of evoking everlasting love. Or buy cheap lager and organise a DWP street party for your neighbours. Or buy 13 Fuchsias from Morrisons (they have the £1 range in the spring).

          The opportunities are endless

But in fairness, it does seem like an insult to fly the flag on such an automated, meaningless (unless you successfully take up the Prosecco option) gesture which probably cost a lot more to process, approve, and send out in a post than it actually gives.

These are the flowers of a of our world of faceless databases. We cease to exist as humans and become numbers with carefully calculated allowances dutifully reported by a machine.

Then again, it's very nice to get anything, so I do thank the faceless databases for securing a living when I'm done with physically earning it. It's not that good in some places on the earth.

Early Birthday wishes to @Mike Allen , I hope you'll have a lovely day :)

What just the one letter? DWP/HMRC normally send a total of around 6 between them for a change like that, together with several 'explanatory' leaflets, pamphlets, etc. that nobody can understand, including themselves if you ever manage to get through on the phone to them.

In April I got an increase in my pension from them of over two pound a month so I suppose they will want some of it back so they can pay you! :old:
