Hello all! I'm a recent Allotmenteer in south London. I'm spending most of my allotted time - excuse the pun - clearing my plot. I'm here to get inspiration and help identifying unknown and neglected plants!

Attached is where I've got to so far!

    Ed

Welcome Ed, its great to see you venturing into the world of grow your own, my advice would be dont try to grow everthing at the start, build the plot up as you go.
Learn all you can about soil preperation, crop rotation, and everything you grow. Most newbies go at it like a steam train, try to grow everything, then give up when it goes a bit wrong, get good at growing what you like to eat, then start to experiment, with new crops, new varieties etc.
Dont be afraid to talk to other allotment holders, their advice can save you a lot of time and money.

Big welcome Ed. Hey that looks like Fanny on the Hill. What Cuttings has quoted is good advice. Slow down and set yourself a steady pace.

Perhaps many of us have done this at first. 'Thinks' I'll soon have this land dug over. You go at it like a JCB. 10-15 mins later and you are well and truly KNACKERED. Slow down. Then what you grow. We sow the fields and scatter, but. we have to thin out the seedlings, and keep the plot weeded. Just a reminder. There are only 24hrs in a day. I love my sleep, don't know about you. Sincere best wishes to you. Enjoy your plot and produce.

Thanks for the advice! I'm taking the opportunity to learn to be patient. I planted some stuff the other day and now it's frosty - I had been warned!!
