I was at my local garden centre on the weekend. Was looking at some of the stone troughs. I want to put together some more Alpine plantings over the summer. Got some quite a few xeric Ferns that I have grown from spore.

They had some nice Conifers labelled as small growing/ miniature
    Never grown any of these.
Anyone have any experience with them??

I remember being told if you're going to buy dwarf conifers go to someone reputable so you know exactly what you're getting and how it will grow, dwarf means slow growing so you could end up with something bigger than you want eventually over time.

I bought myself 2, based on the info on the label.

I think that even if they have the potential to get bigger, the trough will restrict them
And if they do get a bit too big for that, I can always remove them and plant out in the garden.

I agree totally with that. A few years ago, we bought a couple from a reputable dealer here, so we knew exactly what we were getting. They were roughly 30cm tall then, and as things stand, they are about the same height.

If you look on the label, on true dwarf conifer you find the words Nana, or Yatsubusa. In the latin name.
