At last we have managed to get a few days away to Cumbria ,our beloved Lakes.........our spiritual home .

They are very busy up there and trying to make up for lost time .

The weather was fabulous and from the open top bus(bus pass) everything looked perfect.

The days of the Helvellyn climbs are maybe over ,now we find a walk close and at one with the lake is most rewarding.

        @roders

Ours are over as well.

We were supposed to be up there two weeks ago but had to cancel. :noidea:

Lovely photos of Castle Crag.

I can get up there OK but with my knee problem it's difficult coming down the slate path. Well done. Did you walk all round the lake as well? :phew: :heehee:

Did you catch the bus to Seatoller and walk back from there? That path from Castle Crag to Grange has been remade since I was on it last. :blue thumb:

Now I know the handsome couple in those photos! Stunning @roders - one of the most beautiful parts of the country in my book; I would happily retire there if I could, and just watch the world.

Hi Michael ,you soon spotted Castle Crag an old favourite of ours and Wainwright’s
            Sorry you had to cancel.

We walked the lake from Lodore Falls to Keswick ,a lovely walk in lovely weather.

We had a booking just before lockdown and were able to transfer it to September.

The boats were only doing lake tours and not stopping off anywhere, this kind of thing has changed but luckily not the scenery and the general friendliness of everyone was a joy.......

@roders We missed both our June and September bookings up there. Fortunately the place we stay at never takes a deposit from us and they actually suggested that we don't go. They closed for June but they phoned me for September and said we wouldn't like the crowds that were up there as the area was crowded with people on furlough.

The theatre (we normally go twice in a week) is closed and some of the restaurants we like are difficult to get bookings as they can't take as many people as normal.

That's a pity that the boats weren't stopping. The newly finished spa at the Lodore is supposed to be very good. Did you go up Cat Bells (saw it in the background :)) and have you visited Lingholm Gardens since they've rebuilt the place? They're worth an short visit if you go to Cat Bells - and their tea room is OK. When the ferry is stopping it stops at the garden (the one before Hawes End which is the stop for Cat Bells).

A 60+ year old mountain rescuer suffered life changing injuries when he fell 500ft responding to campers who had camped on Red Screes, near Ambleside in February. They had called out the mountain rescue as one of the campers was complaining of chest pains. Both men were fined £200 for travelling from Liverpool and Leicester to the lake district while we are in lockdown.

The mountain rescue has had more callouts during the lockdown periods than they would normally receive, this has not been going down well with the locals.
