I'm not a Conservative, and I'm not defending their recent actions, but you can just imagine the response if it had been a Conservative authority that did this: "Not happy with starving the public to death, the Tories now want to make them illiterate in the process!"

I am politically homeless to be honest - Labour all my life until this last election when I voted Tory as a means to an end, so I am with you there. Ringing in my head when I see stuff like this is the memory of the threats from Labour and Remainers "If you go ahead with Brexit, we will cause chaos.." They didn't create the virus, but they sure are making the most of it to destroy the economy.

Yeah, same here. Went Lib Dem for last two elections, but they've gone off the boil lately. Would never touch Labour again with a barge pole after all that happened between 2015-19 and what I've seen of the antisemitism in that party locally, and although I don't subscribe to the "all Tories are evil" arguments, I just don't think I could personally ever vote for them as my vision of society is so different to their's. Even though I loathe contemporary politics, at every election I look into standing as an independent, and last year tried to raise the funds to do so, but couldn't. This is why it pains me when people assume anyone not voting is "apathetic" - I always read at least the 3 main parties' manifestos inside out, usually have detailed email discussions with the candidates, and follow the election with a fine tooth comb, while many of those I've heard accusing non-voters of apathy are themselves apathetic, have no interest in the actual policies of a party and just always vote for x party because they always have. I spoiled my ballot in a couple of recent local/Euro elections due to the extreme attitudes of the candidates, and will probably do so again for the foreseeable future, as I don't want to help any of them gain more power, and I doubt I will be in a position to fund my own candidacy.

I think Wales are going to reverse their decision on closing off aisles in the supermarkets. Then there will be other problems.

It would not be fair if they allowed supermarkets to sell cards again but still keep high street card shops shut. Same goes for all other non essential items.

I agree @JWK, however I fail to see how not selling cards/books/duvets etc is going to stop the spread of any virus? Masks are mandatory in shops, so if they are as effective as is being stated, then where is the problem with the shops being open?

How fair to anyone in Wales is it for Jeff Bezos to see his profits leap even further?

I think the governments are missing the point, supermarkets are not spreading the bigV, nor are daytime pubs and restaurants.

Its the night time economy that needs shutting down.
Along maybe mixing of households, which I think is probably a big spreader in some areas.

The supermarkets still sold all these 'non essential' items in the first lock down and not a word was uttered...how things are changing..

Clothes are not essential in Wales.....

Maybe not the best way to make the point, but it certainly highlights the stupidity of the situation

Well folks, in these hard times we are experiencing due to Coronavirus, we are looking at challenging times for our Christmas plans.

Many of us are not permitted to have our families round, and those that can are restricted in the number that can visit.

To further the sadness in the coming weeks, our dearly beloved pet turkey has passed away; we will be holding his funeral on 25th December, however we will of course need to respect the government guidance and not have more than 30 mourners at his funeral. We hope that our privacy will be respected at this difficult time.
