No, here in Wales we are in 2 weeks lock down. 2 weeks is 2 weeks - it's as simple at that.

Sorry, I completely missed the point of your post - didn't realize you were in Wales (though a quick glance at your avatar/profile pic would have taught me that!)

There's a chance it will reduce from 14 days to 7 days not necessarily because they have found that is all that's required but because too many people are ignoring the 14 day restriction. I presume they are looking at the idea of 'something is better than nothing' although I don't know how they can quantify it.

With the current fiasco of Test and Trace most people will be out of the 7 day quarantine before they're told they should be in it! On a lot of the statistics shown so far (whether they are accurate is up for debate) it is taking 5-7 days to contact people.

This will be my situation. We are in 14 day self-isolation but because my colleague's test took a week to come in, the first week (during which none of us were isolating) is deducted, so we only have to isolate from last Sat to next. I found out about 8PM Fri. Couldn't get a supermarket slot until Tues, so I had no option but to get takeaways Sat, Sun and tonight, and because there is a lower limit on what you can spend on the supermarket online shop and it made sense to get a week's worth in one go I spent more than I would ever do on the online shop. I also knew this was affordable because of course I won't be buying train tickets as normal. Then I heard the news about them potentially slashing the isolation from one week to two. So the chances are I will have to find the train fares on top of it after all. My weekly budget will therefore be more than doubled. We had already been advised to stand by in case senior management are able to find a loophole whereby we can still come into work, even though it is public-facing. As I've said before, there is a desperation to pretend things are normal, which in some cases is more to do with people being afraid of the reality than economic need (the organization is not profit making - we are actually saving money by having buildings temporarily closed).

You need to compare Sweden with it's neighbours, it is doing much worse than those that locked down.

Compared to the UK they have similar rates, so considering how densely packed we are here I would say Sweden got it completely wrong.

Yep - after all that's going on. I hope that the book is thrown at him and that it is attached to a lump of concrete.

A man who travelled from Rotherham to climb Snowdon has been summoned to court after being found asleep in his car.

Police were out on patrol in the early hours of Sunday morning when they came across his vehicle parked in a lay-by close to Tal Y Cafn.

The man admitted he’d made the journey despite being aware of the current firebreak lockdown rules, which prevent non-essential travel to the area.

However, he said he’d decided to do it regardless as he wanted to climb Wales’ highest mountain alone.

This is an odd story. There is a difference, I think, between breaching the rules accidentally (I've done this myself, and am sure others will have, especially when they have just changed and there is confusion) and deliberately doing so, especially as bizarrely as this. I also know the rules are far more strict in Wales than where I live. But what I don't quite understand is, if he was in his car and attempting to climb the mountain alone, did he really pose a threat? I'm not saying he should have done it, just wondering about the morality, rather than legality, of it. Ie, for one half of the time he would be cocooned inside a car, the other out in the open and presumably miles from people. I suppose if he had had an accident emergency workers would have been exposed to additional risk, is where I think the main issue lies?

When he gets back to Rotherham, will police be arresting him there for breaking two of the Tier 3 restrictions?

                      • Travelling outside, or entering, a tier 3 area should be avoided unless for work, education or youth services, to meet caring responsibilities, or if travelling through the area as part of a longer journey.

                      • Residents of a tier 3 area should avoid staying overnight in another part of the UK, while people who live in a tier 1 or tier 2 area should avoid staying overnight in a tier 3 area.

If he's also convicted of further Covid-19 offences at Rotherham, that should then be fines of £10,000.

He was clearly out-with the rules, but I agree that there is a moral question here. What actual risk did he pose?

I also have to question the 'routine patrol' angle - - really? They regularly patrol places that are in the back of beyond? I understand that a lot of Wales is the back of beyond, but knowing how the police operated in similar conditions in Scotland they occupied their time in the major towns, only going to the wee back waters when called to do so.

I think during the epidemic the Welsh police will be keeping an eye on the known tourist parking points. To ensure they are not being used, by the "it doesn't really apply to me" brigade.
Near to us there is a place called The Fairy Glen. It is a natural cleft in the side of Parbold hill. Very pretty woodland with a stream cascading down a series of waterfalls. Car parking in a lay by for about 10 cars. Normally you may get 20 people max walking along the paths. In May for whatever reason (Facebook?), 100's of people started to turn up , with the resultant parking chaos. The "I can park anywhere I want" brigade. This has happened in several other areas of the country, mass turnouts to locations followed by utter parking chaos. Is this due to the epidemic?
