I use Chrome as my main browser. For a backup I used to use Firefox, but found this a little hesitant sometimes. Microsoft Edge is my 2nd browser, this new product is based on the Chrome browser and works 100%. And as all browsers this is totally free :blue thumb:
If you do have anything confidential to forward Emails and texts could be insecure, apps like Whatsapp use encryption and can be considered secure.

Apps like WhatsApp are by no means secure. Even iff we assume WhatsApp itself (and its mother Facebook) are true to their word and don't spy on us, the encryption used only goes for the traffic in between phones.
But it is also pretty easy to find what the people are typing or what is going on as soon as the file gets decrypted and is put in normal Phone storage. After that a lot of apps can access it, mostly because you allowed them to access your pictures and files

Must admit I've never paid for anything, if it's not free I don't use it.

I used firefox on my old PC and it worked well for a while, but something went wrong with it and I couldn't sort it out, even deleted it and reinstalled it all over again, but it was still the same.
So went back to IE for a while but been using chrome for the last 6 or 7years.

          Well quoting Mcafee.....
More than any other app, WhatsApp offers greater privacy thanks to end-to-end encryption that scrambles messages to ensure only you and the person you’re communicating with can read your messages or listen to your calls.
I presume there will be ways to hack this, but we are talking about what is reasonably available not what the CIA would require.

Think this thread just shows what a minefield the online world is.

No reflection on any of the above posts in this thread, but sadly getting clear advice on staying safe is so open to interpretation, be it what security suite to use or Not, which browsers and add ons are best, which Email providers are the most protective, are Password Managers safe, Windows or Linux etc..... ?

Think we could do with some good tips from a well informed online security insider ... ?

              I'm puzzled!

I hovered my mouse over the emblem on the task bar of the search engine I'm using. It brings a mini image up of this page and at the top margin of it it says "Microsoft Edge Page 2 - the friendly gardening forum - Google Chrome".

So am I using Edge or Chrome - or both?

Well I did read something to the effect that edge uses chrome in some way, too technical for me but got the impression they are basically the same thing with different interfaces.
Did you notice the big word I put in there?????

@shiney I get the the same box up but there's no mention of Chrome. Could you be using Edge/Chrome to browse instead of Edge/Bing?

@Sheal Definitely not using Bing (don't like it) and every so often it asks me whether I would like Bing as default. So I guess I'm using Edge/Chrome. :)

This bit of text might help clear up about Edge and its "Chromium Engine"

Bit like many other things, it may be made by one company, but several others market it with a few tweaks to look like their own brand.

Yes, I think you'll be using Edge/Chrome Shiney. I use Bing and Google puts up a box every now and again asking me if I want to use it.

You're using Chrome, it says "Microsoft Edge" at the start because it's the title of this thread.
