    Hi,

Just had a PM from a new member @Genot who obviously posted her question in there by mistake.

Was just in the process of replying to explain the posting error, when I had an another email alert to say that @Gizmo had replied to the conversation ??

While I have had a direct PM from him in the past , was not aware I had, or could give, him or anyone else, permission to accesss other PMs I receive ? and I did not add him or anyone else to this PM while replying to @Genot ?

Very strange and a little concerning if our PMs are not private ?? ( moderators excluded)

PM's are private, but not necessarily restricted to two people being in the conversation - if a PM is started by someone, either they or the recipient can add people to the conversation unless the option to do so is disabled.

Indeed, when new members join they are automatically sent a message which is in fact a PM trail between them and all of the admin team, which they can if they wish reply to. Let me go and find you an example....

        Here is a recent one:

        upload_2021-4-4_16-35-13.png

Note the 'Invite More' link at the bottom - that means that any recipient can add other members into the discussion. This can be disabled, but I believe only by the originator of the PM at the point when they initially create the conversation.

Ah, did not think of that, don't use the PMs that much, and my head is spinning trying to get to grips with this new fangled moby, :rolleyespink: think I need a ram upgrade !!

Sounds like Genot was having real trouble then, hopefully my reply has shown her how to post in the open forum .

Only slightly off topic: sometimes, as Admin, we receive PM's from newer members just asking about problems with plants. We then direct them to the relevant section on the forum as they're bound to get better answers than just replies from us as individuals. All PM's are private.

I am rather distracted whilst typing this as I have a male blackbird tapping on the window right in front of me! I don't know whether it's a PM in morse code. :heehee:

I've had new members contact me via pm as well.
I think it stems from the fact that to reply to you in a thread they click on your name.
Which then takes them to conversations.

If that blackbird is looking in and can see your screen, maybe your PM's are not private...

How do I actually PM someone, anyway? I've only been a member for almost 2 years so I haven't figured out how to do it yet! :roflol::redface:

As I said, click on their name, and then conversation, you then get to write your message to them.

I received a pm from a member that joined in early February and asked me a question about my previous avatar. He's not posted on the forum and hasn't been seen since.
