Shiny apple - what is it coated with?

I think he didn't wash his hands after dealing with the turkey.... and left dubious 'things ' on the glass. That's my theory!!

 

Sounds like something from an Agatha Christi plot.

 

We could write a blockbuster 'who done it ' murder mystery.....to keep it on thread we must include a ' shiny apple ' though. Hmmmm...the plot thickens!!

Nor do I, by the time it's been chewed, dunked in acid, mixed in with digestive enzymes, most bugs have had it. Only applies in UK mind you.
Two exceptions would be prewashed/prepared salad stuff and water melons.

 

Stomach acid and digestive enzymes don't do anything to pesticides, heavy metals, diesel exhaust and a vide variety of germs. Otherwise you wouldn't wash off bird poop either.
Especially pesticides and several chemicals are pretty soluble in fat/wax, so they accumulate.

This might not be important for an apple freshly picked from a free range tree sitting near a hiking path, but it is important when those apples are packed by unknown people, transported over longer distances, stored in unknown conditions and then being "tested" by several customers ("is that one ripe and good-looking?").

Sure it won't kill your right away to eat it. And chances are really slim it might even have a detrimental effect to your health, but i know there a enough farmers around the world using strong pesticides and since I can't say where those veggies come from, I prefer to do the safe thing

Quite right, but I'm not picking fruit and veg from roadsides and by buying local, UK grown and seasonal, were possible, I have a pretty good idea of how the crop was grown, harvested and stored.

 

I think the shiny coating on apples is the same stuff they used to coat Izal toilet paper with.
