Seen in a front garden near the sea on the south coast so I guess it's fairly tender. Leaves are holly like but obviously not holly.

I grew one for a number of years so not too tender.
I got fed up with it to be honest, mine was an upright shrub and I think my garden was too dry for it.

I just noticed it's over the top of a fence, at first I thought it was ground cover.

It's quite hardy unless you grow it in Scotland. Last time I saw one of those it was high in the Andes in Chile. :rolleyespink:

Love it..used to grow it in Wales.
Have also a baby one here...so far so good.
                  No flowers yet...maybe too dry.

                    Sorry cannot remember.
It was always a very slow growing shrub.
We grew it in acid /sheltered woodland.
Pics below show a fab one I saw at St Andrews Botanical garden ..East coast Scotland...south of Dundee/North of Edinburgh. Mine never reached anything like those proportions, as you know I have a no water shrub policy so that probably held mine back.
I dont have any damp areas except in winter, and summer 2021,;) so it pretty much put out the odd flower , grew very slowly and dropped spiny leaves.
