Good Lord, Victoria! I think they're wonderful. Having tried and failed dismally to grow apricots, then deided that I really don't like them much anyway, the loquats are infinitely preferable! My baby tree produced 2kgs this year although I did fleece it during December and January. It remains to be seen whether I'll still get fruit when it's too big to protect from frost!

I've got a loquat tree, its about 8 ft high but very spindly.
Its not growing in a great position, it got overun by a yucca, but its fighting back and appears to be making good growth this year.
      Its not flowered yet.
Its one of my few, not grown from seed, trees, so it might come up with some decent fruit when the time comes, that is hoping they manage to ripen over here.

I've got a couple of, seed grown:biggrin:, Asimina triloba, the plan is I can pollenate one with the other, trouble is one flowers before the other, and the overlap is very short between them, so I only get a few days when its possible to do.
This year the weather was rubbish, so no fruit this year, cant say I'm mad about the fruit I do get anyway.

They flower in late autumn (silly time!) so often, the flowers get frosted = no fruit. You'll have to get up the ladder and drape fleece over it

Flies pollinate them. And they like boggy conditions. Just so happens that I planted my original one near the manure heap  If it's any consolation, a late frost killed all the flowers on mine, too, as it did the figs.
Re-potting (or planting) the Ensete is on the 'to do' list for tomorrow ;)

            I'll remember that, I think.;)
You would be surprised what I get up to, but then maybe not.
Obviously we dont get the right kind of flies, as I've never had fruit without hand pollenating, but the plants are a distance away from one another.

Is that really part of your old Ensete or did you buy another one?

Oh yeah, my figs keep falling off this year for some reason.
They look ok, nothing wrong with them.

Last year I was giving pounds of them away to anyone I could.

 That's Nana MkII that I unwrapped (too optimistically) in March and it just lifted out of the ground..not a root to it's name. The basal plate seemed sound, though, so potted it up. Kept it on the dry side until it started pushing up leaves. Trouble is....I did buy and plant a replacement for it, so I've no idea now where to plant it to give it a fighting chance of winter survival. I'm supposed to be cutting down on pots..:gaah:

That one was the replacement for my much-mourned, 1m-diameter-stemmed, 5-year old original that flowered. Pete said it would die after flowering, so I dug it out  It was solid as a rock, and I still don't believe that it would have pegged it. I still hold it against him, and I'll get even one day :roflol::loll:

Now I think I said it would die, meaning the stem, I really dont remember telling you to dig it up.
You were supposed to wait for it to grow pups.

DO NOT get me started on the impossibility of posting anything to (or receiving anything from) Plague Island nowadays! I soooo loved exchanging plants and seeds with fellow gardeners but Brexshit has effectively put paid to all that
