            I have found it in a search and it is the caterpillar of a Pale Tussock moth. I've never heard of it before ...

                Thanks @Michael Hewett that does seem to be it, it looks very exotic and so I wondered if it was one to avoid. It seems the hairs can be an irritant. Images of the adult moth are a bit disappointing as it is fairly drab.

                            A wall brown is mostly orange and a red admiral is orange and black.

                              The name 'red admiral' apparently comes from a corruption of the original 18th-century name 'red admirable'.
