Just out of curiosity, I found an image of Rosie when she was really young. She had the same patch in almost the same place. The facial coloring looks almost the same as this female. Could she have survived the mange? That would be fantastic if true! She would be two years older now than the photo attached.

Well let's hope you get a decent summer @hydrogardener. Yes definitely Regina and not Reggie. :) It could be that she's in a moult as you say, I hope you're right and she's not heading the same way as Rosie.

I was thinking the same before I read this post, the colouring of her coat is almost the same. If not Rosie then perhaps one of her offspring with the same markings.

Today is Mother's Day in the states, and I captured this image last night. I thought it was appropriate to illustrate that humans are not the only species that cherish their mothers. Mother's little shadow.

This poor fox is ravaged with mange, but it seems to be surviving. I watched last night as a little drama unfolded. A fair sized raccoon approached the fox and got too close for comfort. This is the war face the fox put on just before it lunged at the raccoon with teeth flashing. The raccoon reacted quickly, but it may have been nipped. The raccoon disappeared, not to return. Winner.jpg

I've just been sitting watching a fox in the neighbours garden.
It often lays there as it catches the first rays of the morning sun.

There we two magpies on the fence above, one kept creeping up on the fox and pecking it's tail, this went on for a while, the fox made no attempt to kill the magpies even though they were definitely baiting it.
After about 10 minutes the fox moved off and the magpies followed.
Could it be that the magpies have learnt to follow the fox around and get to share any food she finds.
There was definitely a connection between them.

Magpies used to do this to our cat. She would sit with her front end in the hedge listening for movement by voles and her rear end sticking out. A magpie usually came up and pecked at her tail. I think it was to see if she was still alive. She was getting on a bit then and would just flick her tail after a while.

Our resident fox with mange seems to be improving daily, I wonder if someone is helping her along. Although she is improving, it appears she is not in a good mood.

This is from last year; the magpies were sneaking up on the fox cub to peck its tail. I think they just like teasing them. Or it may be that they are trying to move the foxes on - the cub was eating calci worms that I put out for the birds.
