This is a mini wildflower meadow created on a roundabout that I drove past yesterday.

We visited Ickworth in Suffolk today. The house was interesting but the gardens were disappointing. The walled garden was further from the house than it looked on the map but it was just long grass, no flowers or veg. I think they should have said so on their map. It's National Trust.

Back in 1980 we visited East Lambrook Manor gardens in Somerset. No idea if we paid to go around but I assume we did. Fascinated by the layout of plants by Margery Fish and greatly enjoyed the visit. We decided last night that we needed a time out for ourselves and GW 2 for 1 came up with East Lambrook. The new owners took over in May this year. We found a booklet that we had purchased on our first visit and took it with us. Good move! Had a pause cafe in the cafe and then the lady owner took us on a tour of the house. Fantastic and the history behind it is amazing. Then we went around the garden. Even though they have only been there since May they are working really hard to recreate a lot of the original garden and they are achieving brilliant results. The owners are English but lived and worked in the US for 30 years and came back and bought East Lambrook Manor. We will certainly go back to see how much more they have done.
A lovely visit and so glad we went for our much needed time out.
If you are in the area do visit, it is worthwhile.

Today we went to Rudyard Kipling's old home, Batemans. We are staying with my sister in East Sussex before catching the ferry back to France.

I'm so pleased to hear about East Lambrook Manor. I was worried that whoever bought it wouldn't want to open the garden to the public.
I have very fond memories of visiting it some years ago, and it's definitely on my list to visit again. Interesting to hear that they've opened the house to visitors as well .

@AnniD the new owners want and will continue to open the gardens and nursery to the public but it was only because we had a booklet from 1980 that we shared with them so we had the indoor experience. The house isn't open otherwise.

You seem to have rain in Wirral @Plantminded , because here looks no garden like yours. What flowered is done even they normally flower into August due to the lack of any rain.
