Caught our Bullfinch just now sneaking some flower buds off our Forsythia hanging over our fence, best pic I can get but shows he’s back . IMG_5881.jpeg

Because I talked so much about foxes and cats that are in the garden, OH bought me a wildlife camera, which I positioned yesterday on a crucial place: the fence
Over the afternoon, a pigeon and a cat came.
This one below came half past 5.

I've just checked my wildlife camera and found this inquisitive chap next to my greenhouse.

Unbelievable, when I checked the camera this morning, the fox (always the same?) came 5 times yesterday in the evening and once today. Always the same direction, but he discovered the camera and tried to do something. Camera is still in place.
It was really interesting because I always thought they leave once in the evening and return in the morning.

Maybe it was having trouble finding food and doing multiple rounds in case it missed anything.

I saw him lying in front of the house in the evening looking to the kitchen window where I observed him. First I thought he was injured, but my neighbour said he went off.
I’m sure he knows that’s my garden and that I live in the house. Animals are so much smarter than we are.
I will watch the videos tomorrow morning and look for differences.
But I have to say that seeing him in the videos brings him closer. Before, I only had the damage in the garden and this wasn’t very charming :)

Your garden will be part of his territory; he likely understands that he can't stop humans living in dens on his territory so he might as well take as much advantage as possible.

Last night, it was like Oxford Street on the fence with casualties.

First, one of them comes back.
                      20251121fox_01.jpg

Then he appeared, but hesitated. Something was not right for him.
"I can't go further, I need to find out what it is first", he said.
                      20251121fox_02.jpg

He is still there on the same spot, still not sure what is it, a second one is now behind him and it gets crowdy. The one behind him pushes, "go on, what are you waiting for", he said. 20251121fox_03.jpg

Pushing from the back, the first one doesn't like that at all, turns around and the fox behind him falls off or is bumped off. 20251121fox_04.jpg

The noise was heartbreaking. OH had to go down and to check if everything is okay. I'm not brave enough for that.

How funny. Maybe a couple of this year's youngsters still hanging out together before going off to find their own territories. This is cub dispersal season.

@simone_in_wiltshire around here the foxes sound like chimps getting all worked up. Screaming at each other - it sounds dreadfull. Maybe they will be mating soon?

We have so many foxes here, there is hardly space left. Both are this year’s youngsters.

When I saw the second one pushed down, I said to OH that we had 2 little dead foxes since then, small ones, and I wonder if they broke something in similar situations.

That sound last night was a shouting, “why did you push me? “

But generally, when we just hear them, it sounds awful scary and so loud. If they had a predator, I think they would talk less loud.
