A tit couple is looking for the nesting box in my garden.

At about 150m away the other side of a small reservoir just over the border in Hampshire, a couple of distant fuzzy pics of a Killdeer (Plover). Another bird blown across the Atlantic in the recent storms and an extreme rarity. A larger version of our Ringed Plover.

I have a bumblebee in my garden since December, but it's the first time I have that. I think since last year, birds and plants are confused.

While having a walk on 30 December, I was able to take pictures of two Robins.





Last week, when we had sunshine and the tit couple was looking for the nesting box, I watched them fascinated, until a Red Kite family of two adults and one youngster in his second year appeared out of the blue. They must have been hungry, because they were definitely out for food. All birds around were suddenly gone.

Any ideas what this is, it spent a while on the bird table this morning.

 

@pete Looks like an escaped Zebra Finch or similar.

 

Grey Plover and Turnstones.




A distant Red Necked Grebe, a scarce winter visitor to Poole Harbour.

 

Its slightly smaller than a sparrow.
A youngster perhaps as it doesn't have any real markings?

 

@pete It is definitely a white form of Zebra Finch, like most cagebirds there are many hybrids.

 

Right, I didn't realise that, thanks, not seen it today.

 

Sitting at the kitchen table yesterday doing Le Mot, we noticed a couple of starlings on the feeders. Then more arrived and settled on trees in the orchard. We got up to look more closely and saw loads of them also on the ground and in the next field. Went upstairs to look out of the back window and WOW! Thousands of starlings close by and in the fields next to us. Haven't seen so many so close before. The fields have had standing water so the birds must have been feeding on the invertebrates that had moved up. What a spectacular sight when suddenly they all just upped and went. Magic.

Lots of bee's, honey and Bubbles flying and 2 ladybirds

 

Got 2 lady phanants which are getting tame they now follow me around the garden and when i call them they will run over to me for food!!!!! not got them to eat out of my hand but i don't think that will be long

 

From Wednesday, as it was a decent day with no rain! Annual trip to Slimbridge for the winter wildfowl. Many were distant.
