Our rescue cats, rescued separately, were both indoor cats when we took them on at 4 and 8 years old. Neither has ever shown any desire to use the catflap or to follow us outdoors. One will reluctantly sniff the doorstep. Strangely, the birds understand that they are not a threat and just hop around close by.

This is how it starts. Every time a bit further. Wait until it gets warmer. I’m sure he will find a warm place in the sun.:)

I must tell you, Dewi now enjoys going out, he went out yesterday in the rain and I followed him, but I only had a tee shirt and old track suit trousers and I was getting wet, so I went back in the house to put on some 'proper' clothes and an old anorack, and by the time I got back to the garden Dewi was on top of the garage roof ! Don't ask how he got there, I haven't got a clue.
Then the next time I saw him he was in the garden ... so having just three legs doesn't bother him at all ... and also, like me, rain doesn't seem to bother him either

This morning he's done some more exploring (it's dry today) under the patio decking, into next door's garden, and into my 'shed/old garage'. I tried keeping an eye on him so that he didn't become 'lost' , but I tried not to show him I was watching. I didn't want him to think I was being too overbearing. I was tidying the plants in my cold frames and he kept coming back and forth to me as he prowled around.
He's also learnt he can go out the kitchen door and come back in through the French doors, and vice versa :dbgrtmb:

I did take a photo of him in the garden but haven't uploaded it (or whatever the word is) to the laptop yet.
He's back in the house now, had a dish full of food and is fast asleep under the bed

Glad he’s settled in, @Michael Hewett.

Our old three-legged rescue cat, whose image I posted on here a while ago, never saw himself as disabled. When we had builders in fixing the roof we had to have scaffolding put up. Several times he followed the builders up the stepladders and along the planks and joined them on the roof tiles. And made his way down again, refusing any help from them. :)

Most animals seem to have common sense and know where they are well off, at least those past a certain stage in life, a bit like people.

You can see where his left hind leg is missing ...
That's where Bella is buried :frown: Strange how Dewi likes to lie there, he lies there for ages, and there are plenty of other places where he could lie but he likes this place best.
