The other night Firefox crashed on me.

Well after a restart it came back but things have changed.

I now have two dark blue lines at the top of the page each with the usual X in a red box to close it down, sure I've only ever had one.

I've also lost my bookmarks in the tool bar and I cant put them back, it wont let me.
Also the BACK button doesn't work.

Appreciate any ideas, I'm wondering if its just a setting problem but cant find out which one

I've done a few restarts and it just comes back the same.

Have you run a virus scan?

It sounds a bit suspect to me. What you describe is not right for firefox.

No not run a virus scan.
    Everything else seems normal.

Just wondering if I should uninstall and then re install Firefox.

It seems to have go itself in a state.

It just said it had crashed and closed down, when it restarted itself it was like I said.

BTW, I've got a free AVG virus scan and I dont think its worth running.
I did have a Mcafee one that I paid for for a couple of years, but when I did get a virus it was totally useless.
So dont have much faith in anti virus rip offs.

Get Microsoft Security Essentials. Its a completely free app direct from MS, and it is good.

Do you think I would need to get rid of AVG before downloading it.

I mean would the two conflict.

I got rid of AVG & in stalled another free one called Avast & it is just brilliant Pete, plus the added bonus of not having conflicts with other software it updates automatically & tells you of any alerts while taking care of them..
Get rid of AVG & install Avast is my advice & it runs perfectly with Firefox etc. Here is a link to the download.. avast! Free Antivirus - Download Software for Virus Protection

AVG is now suffering the same fate as Norton and then MacAfee did. They were all brilliant at first, and consequently became extremely popular. Having captured such a large market share, they almost became the defacto standard that malicious toerags had to beat, so they were constantly battling against the fact that they were the target.

Microsoft Security Essentials will go the same way, but it will take a little while because its still not caught on quite as much as the three I just mentioned, so for now I reckon its the best one, and yes I'd get rid of AVG before installing MSE, because the two may conflict.

Tried them all, when I used to run Windows and not one of them ever worked (even Microsoft's attempt!). The only two that did work, were
Malware Bytes, and Spybot Search & Destroy, both worked a treat. Malware even got rid of a nasty trojan that was like Japanese Knotweed... It just would not die by any other method/attempt lol
You should run virus software in safe mode (F8 before the windows load screen), but most antivirus software doesn't work in safe mode -- go figure!

Now I'm a happy penguin in my Linux world.
