    Greetings.

I'm a bit of a reluctant gardener, having been delegated the task by my now immobile aged parent! Being a bit of a procrastinator and avoider of anything involving hard work, this does not sit too well with me, even though our patch is only about 15 feet by 20!

One of the problems is, a lot of the plants have a history! For example, a peony that came from a lady who sold up and went back to Austria, over 40 years ago. I'm already in the dog house for killing an ancient Clematis, because I thought I was pruning an Hydrangea!!!

Some of the stuff is quite good, you leave them to do their own thing and they come up year after year. The likes of Dead Nettles, Periwinkles, Grannies Whatsits, hardy Geraniums, Snowflakes, Celandine and some grasses, don't seem to need much looking after, although the Evening Primrose, which was brilliant a couple of years ago, seems to have gone AWOL. I've had a go at Fuchsias, mistakenly believing that hardy meant fully hardy, even when they were in pots! Unfortunately, last winters' long early frosts, did for most of them, although a couple of Hawksheads and Angel's Teardrops have survived.

I've got access to a 1992 reprint of the RHS Gardeners' Encyclopedia of Plants & Flowers, published by Dorling Kindersley, which, if I need to mention it in any posts, I will just refer to it as 'the book'! It's full of pictures and stuff, and I've managed to identify some mystery plants with it, so it has its uses, apart from being an excellent doorstop.

Well thats enough for now, I expect I will spend some time in the 'Identification Area' and also asking questions about Fuchsias and Roses.

    Cheers for now.

    Grumpy!

[IMG] Grumpy.. :D Good to have you aboard.. Allot of us have gardens kind of thrust upon us so I don't think you are alone & the funny thing is they all end up enjoying their gardens... Sounds like you have a lovely mature garden there.. BTW, never worry about asking questions or for ID's.. Plenty of us here to offer help & guidance.. :) Put some photos up of your garden.. We have a couple of very good Rose & Fuchsia people on here & a Rose forum so ask away.. Look forward to seeing you around..

Hi Grumpy, welcome to Gardeners Corner:thumbsup: I'm not sure that you are all that grumpy or a reluctant gardener because you sound as though, although you might not admit, you do have the gardening bug:heehee::yess:
I don't think that isn't any of us gardeners who, in the early years, haven't made some sort of embarrassing mistakes with plants [and maybe still do:heehee::help::D]. Good luck with the learning and I hope you enjoy the success you deserve.

It's something I've been working on most of my life, I started orf 'happy', and also 'bashful', 'dopey', 'sneezy' and 'sleepy'. Have added 'grumpy' to the list since my D.I.V.O.R.C.E. Can't see me getting the full house though, becoming a 'doc' seems to me to be a tad too much like 'ard work!
