If you've been there at Easter, August, or Autumn half term then there's a good chance you've been out on a ride with my daughter (one of those who canters) to the likes of Webbers Post, Grannies Ride, Ley Hill, Cat's Scramble, etc.

So you'll recognize this view (from our caravan at Easter a few years ago):

And Horner Water/Woods (caught my first trout near this point when I was about 9 and staying at Watchet). That's the river bank right in the foreground:

Got pics of the deer up on Ley Hill somewhere, and we did the evening bat walk (with bat detectors) along Horner Water last year. it's the sort of site we like - no facilities apart from the riding and beautiful surrounding countryside.

Do you remember the goats that used to be in the field opposite Horner car park for many years, now mainly hens. Our evening walk always takes us past them:

My daughter knows all the names of the ponies/horses there - I'll have a word with her when she comes back from blackberrying and edit this post.

Where you at the farewell party for Jo (who used to live in the caravan next to the stables and led the rides) at Julian & Marion's a couple of years ago?

I shall have to get Mr Kandy to find my piccys as I have so many on the computer, and i think most of my Fugi ones are somewhere where i can't find them at the moment

I remember Jo as she was the one who used to take us onto the hills, but didn't realise she had left.Wait till i tell my sister. My sister stayed in those static vans but I can't remember what number she stayed in and as she is away in France at the moment can't contact her. don't remember the goats but Mr Kandy will jog my memory when i tell him if they were around.I remember the Static that Jo stayed in and every Autumn the horses and ponies went elsewhere to spend the winter months

The lady on the till in reception was her name Mary? She seemed quiet elderly and had been there so long was like part of the furniture. The first time I went out riding was for about two hours and they stuck me on a big one so had to get on the horse by the mounting steps but when i got back i slid off{seemed like a ten foot drop}and then everyone was howling with laughter as i couldn't walk the few steps back to our van and had to sit down on the bench seat outside reception until i had recovered a bit.One of the horses I went on was a Piebald{black and white}and also a chestnut coloured one and they always seemed to poo all over the road as we walked out of the yard :heehee:There was another stables just up the road towards Horner but we didn't like that one:D

We would have carried on using Burrowhayes but as we are in the Caravan Club Mr Kandy said we pay Membership to the club so we might as well use their sites so we tend to stay at the CC site on the outskirts of Minehead...

But what walks have you got there - through The Parks, no comparison surely? (or is it within range of the lower slopes of North Hill?).

P.S. - going off topic, but an incredibly high number of people (including us) who use that site also use Seadown, Charmouth, Dorset on the opposite coast.
